Yerevan's identity is written in pink tuff. Tuff Fins asks how that stone can shape a contemporary office building: not as cladding on a flat wall, but as a field of slender vertical fins that turns the whole facade into one calm, mathematical wave.

Each fin runs the full height of the building and twists gradually along its length. A Grasshopper script sets the rotation of every fin from a smooth curve tuned with solar analysis: where the sun is strongest the fins close into an almost solid stone surface, and where daylight and views matter they open to reveal the glass behind. From the street, the facade reads as a single soft movement across both elevations; inside, it gives filtered, changing light.

The fins are precast in a mix of crushed local tuff and white cement around a steel core, so they keep the colour and texture of the stone while staying light and buildable. The glazed ground floor is set back, so the stone volume seems to float above the avenue. At night the wave reverses: light from inside turns the fins into glowing stripes.

Key points

  • Parametric facade: the twist of every fin is driven by a solar-tuned curve.
  • Materials: precast crushed-tuff fins on steel cores, floor-to-ceiling glazing, dark bronze details.
  • Performance: deep fins shade the glass in summer and let low winter sun in.
